Saint Resources: The Week of July 8–14

271

Summer is an ideal time to get caught up on books you’ve meant to read, to-do lists you’ve meant to complete, and Pinterest projects you’ve pinned. It’s also a good time to immerse yourself in the summer season of the Church, especially its many, many saint days. The following resources will give you a little background on some of the saints the Church celebrates this week, from Sunday, July 8, through Saturday, July 14.

  • Saint Augustine Zhao Rong, July 9 – The calendar is full of worthy European saints, but you might wish to expand your students’ knowledge of saints from other parts of the world, including China, the home country of Saint Augustine Zhao Rong.
  • Saint Benedict, July 11 – The Church celebrates this sixth-century abbot who established monasteries. Learn more about Saint Benedict, the patron of Europe.
  • Saint Henry, July 13 – As both a German king and Holy Roman Emperor, Saint Henry may be accused of jumping too quickly to war, but his legacy is his commitment to working for peace throughout Europe.
  • Kateri Tekakwitha, July 14 – Canonzied in 2012, Kateri is a Native American Saint. Catholic Digest’s “Five Facts About St. Kateri Tekakwitha” provides quick bits of information about her life, her canonization, and sites you may visit to learn more about “she who bumps into things.”
